Introducing our DEI Lead

2023-12-11

Hey there! I’m Fatime, Global DEI Lead for Avalanche Studios Group.

I’m based at our Malmö office, in a city I love. Being raised here, I’ve always loved the city's colorful diversity and closeness to the rest of Europe. The Avalanche office here is awesome; located on a single floor, it’s easy to meet your colleagues when stopping by the kitchen and meeting area, and (when you get time) there are plenty of games to play! We’ve also been told by visiting Avalanchers that we have the best hot chocolate out of all the five locations.

Having worked in the field of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for more than ten years, I’ve collaborated with dozens of organizations to create more inclusive workplaces by implementing effective DEI strategies. To me, DEI isn’t just a buzzword – it's about carefully creating an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued regardless of their background. It means we acknowledge and respect our differences. Innovation and creativity thrive on those differences! To embrace diversity is to create a productive workplace full of empowered people who feel they can be their true selves and each have equal opportunity to thrive and grow.

Avalanche is a global company with five locations. As Global DEI Lead, I work across all of them to ensure our workplace reflects diversity and promotes an environment where everyone feels included and valued. My primary responsibility is to craft and execute DEI initiatives that support our organizational goals. This includes facilitating training, driving communications about DEI, analyzing data to identify areas of improvement, and partnering with others to bring about positive change.

We’re currently in the exciting phase of developing our new DEI strategy, with a dual focus on both our people and games. Internally, this involves enhancing our training programs, establishing and strengthening Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), and reviewing our policies to ensure an inclusive work environment. On the games side, we continue to work with diverse perspectives through research and consultation to craft better games and better meet the needs of our player communities. This holistic approach not only fosters a more inclusive culture within our teams but ultimately results in better games that better meet the needs of our diverse community of players.

One of my primary goals is to ensure that our workforce represents the diversity of our communities. This not only includes our visible differences but also the unseen ones, such as our beliefs, experiences, and perspectives. My aim is to create a sustainable culture where every team member feels empowered to voice their opinions and concerns.

So that’s a bit about me! I’ll continue my work making Avalanche Studios Group an industry leader in DEI and will continue to keep Avalanchers and beyond in the know about what and how we’re doing. When I’m not working on DEI, you’ll catch me snapping pictures at weddings or family events. I have a passion for taking pictures of beautiful moments for people to remember for the rest of their lives.

Stay tuned for our future updates!
